Could Btc be used as a corruption free voting mechanism as it is now?

Give each voter a BTC address then have the voter add an amount of $ and send it to an address from a given list that represents each candidate. Since every vote can be verified publicly, just need an app to tally up and exclude duplicate transactions. Am I missing something?

Or have each person create their own address and then register that address with the government as your voting address.
